Madagascar is a large island off the Eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. It is probably most famous for the eponymous cartoon, but trust us when we tell you that it is one of the most incredible places on planet Earth, definitely worth a visit.
The first place that you will want to visit in Madagascar is The Ile Sainte Marie, an island of the Madagascar’s eastern coast. The island is riddled with inlets and bays, complete with some of the whitest and most gorgeous beaches in the world. There are wrecks of 18 and 19 century pirate ships to dive around for and humpback whales come to visit the island in the summer and fall.
Isalo National Park is one of the most spectacular parks in the entire world, with such a variety of terrain that you will not see anywhere else. It features sandstone formations, steep canyons, grassland, as well as occasional pools with palm trees around them.
If you want to see another sight that you cannot see anywhere else, you need to check out the Avenue of the Baobabs. It is actually a simple dirt road which is lined by ginormous trees of baobab. Many of the trees are 800 years old and the interesting thing is that they didn’t always stand alone like this.
Ifaty is a must-see pair of fishing villages in southwest Madagascar for every self-respecting diver. The reason for this is the giant coral reef with ridiculously rich underwater life that you can check out with professional diving instructors and tour guides. It is truly something else.
